Being Austinites and having access to so many amazing things to do here is one of the reasons we will always call this place our home. What’s also nice, and what MANY others are beginning to realize is that there are also an enormous amount of beautiful destinations within less than an hour or so outside of the city. The Texas Hill Country is full of an ever growing amount of fun things to do and places to stay to fill up many free weekends throughout the year. Or…. if you are just visiting Austin, reasons to extend your stay and continue to explore. Recently, we had the chance to take a quick one night trip out to Wimberley, TX to experience and create content for some new Texas “Glamping” accommodations called Yurtopia. Given how new this place is as of now, we really had no idea of what to expect. However, in the short time since our stay, we have had so many people reach out to us asking about this place based off our Instagram posts and we wanted to make sure that we got the low down out to the masses by giving these guys their own write up.

Here is all you need to know to put together a quick one night or full weekend trip to Yurtopia and Wimberley, TX….

The Yurts

First, lets discuss quickly what a yurt actually is…. Wikipedia describes “a traditional yurt (from the Turkic languages) or ger (Mongolian) as a portable, round tent covered with skins or felt and used as a dwelling by several distinct nomadic groups in the steppes of Central Asia.” In modern Airbnb and Glamping times, these structures have been modified and decorated to include all of today’s luxuries like air conditioning, heated floors, and even bathrooms.

Opening with their first Yurt in early 2019, the family running the business wanted to open a destination spot in one of their favorite places in hopes that visitors would leave with the same feelings as they have about the area. With the success of the first Yurt came the inception and completion of 2 more in the fall of 2019 with another 3 looking to be completed in 2020. Now…. there are many locations all over the planet that offer these luxury yurt options and they are relatively easy to construct depending on type. This family however, took the design and care of these to another level. Deciding to go with traditional Mongolian Yurts, they actually had them imported from Mongolia….. But they did not stop there! The owners went the extra mile to include all of the amenities you could ask for in a weekend escape. Below are just some of the things you can expect in your private Yurt -

King and queen beds with luxury linens
Privacy Fencing
Outdoor kitchen stocked with all the cookware and a gas grill
Hot tub or plunge pool depending on the season ( even a outdoor TV for a little Netflix and chill)
360 degree view rooftop decks equipped with hammocks
Gas fire pit
Private outdoor bathrooms/showers (They are even heated for the colder months!)

Other amenities around the resort include -

10 acres of trails winding throughout the property
River access less than a mile away (They are actually building some family style accommodations by the river that should be available sometime in 2020)
6 minute drive to Wimberley Square. (More on this below)
Dark skies acceptable for some amazing stargazing
All the FRIENDLY wildlife you can put your eyes on!

The beauty of Yurtopia is that you can pack your bags with however much or little clothing, supplies, and vices you want and never have to leave the property if thats your game plan. But if you do want to venture out to explore everything else Wimberley has to offer, here are some of our favorites -
